The Cultural Christian

The Writings of David Andrew Johnson
The Eternal Landscape of the Past

“Wisdom may cry aloud though none regardeth her“

The William Gladstone Society

“Last night I met Gladstone, it will always be a memorable night for me.

… he was always noble of soul. Listening to every one, drawing out every one, with a force and a modesty that touched us more than all his power“

The Lands of Poetry

“The flower will wilt- fleeting life fades tomorrow

Come, dearest of wives, hug my shoulder a while

You cling to me now: will you not in deep sorrow

Be seeking my grave over many a mile?“

About Me

"My ethos, my writings, my thoughts."

I had been contemplating tentatively the Christian faith with head but not heart for many years.  I extolled its virtues for others but not for myself. “Start with love” said Peter France regarding his own conversion. Drop the doubts, the scrutiny, and the supremacy of rationality. I did, and I became a Christian.

“ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed but not in despair. Persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed “ - Corinthians

This is a Christian website written from the experience of an evolving  pilgrimage. It is an exploration with heart and head of the Christian faith in all its glorious mystery, creativity and fascinating forms.

At the core is the unwavering belief that the Christian religion has bestowed wonderful things upon this earth and that the Christian message, the Bible and our churches are a shining gift to humanity. Not solely  the true message and true faith, but a sacred repository of beauty and shining devotion.

The Cultural Christian is preoccupied with all things relating to the Christian faith. The Christian faith is followed and venerated by a stunningly diverse mosaic of nations, peoples  and cultures each unique and fascinating. The writings are an attempt to support and understand the people of our faith who have been and are persecuted for their devotion to Christ. This page is concerned with the Christian Holocaust of 1915 and its aftermath and legacy, and seeks to raise more awareness of this event so neglected in the West.

I wonder often on these pages why there is an absence of deep rooted or righteous awareness of the experience of Christians whose lives are blighted by centuries old discrimination and even violence. The writings here are equally a commentary and critical perspective on the  historical and contemporary West and its seemingly inexorable march to degeneracy and narcissism. The conclusion is that the West has been intellectually and morally diseased for some considerable portion of time and that this degeneracy is now manifest for all to see who have eyes, and sense to notice.
